This is a Day of New Beginnings
By Brian A. Wren
Born in 1936 in England, Brian A. Wren served for two (2) years in the British Army before obtaining his B.A. in modern languages and theology at Oxford University. Brian A. Wren received a doctorate in philosophy (Old Testament theology) in 1968. Wren has published 7 collections of hymns, totaling over 250 hymns published, along with books and articles pertaining to worship. He resides in Decatur, GA. So much could be said of His life, testimony and work. For now, I will leave a quote and few links on his biography if you’d like to look for yourself.
He states clearly, “a hymn is a poem, and a poem is a visual art form. The act of reading a hymn aloud helps to recover its poetry and its power to move us—the power of language, image, metaphor, and faith-expression.”

Lyrics of verses:
This is a day of new beginnings, time to remember and move on, time to believe what love is bringing, laying to rest the pain that’s gone.
For by the life and death of Jesus, God’s mighty Spirit, now as then, can make for us a world of difference, as faith and hope are born again.
Then let us, with the Spirit’s daring, step from the past and leave behind our disappointment, guilt, and grieving, seeking new paths, and sure to find.
Christ is alive, and goes before us to show and share what love can do. This is a day of new beginnings; our God is making all things new.
In faith we’ll gather round the table to taste and share what love can do. This is a day of new beginnings, our God is making all things new.

I hope this hymn blesses you as it did me, with our theme for January being New Beginnings. Until next Sunday, God Bless!
Happy Sunday!
