Sunday’s Song: Power of the Cross

Sunday’s Song: Power of the Cross
We have had the pleasure to enjoy some amazing songs over the last few weeks. And while my purpose for Sunday’s song was to share a new or unfamiliar hymn that has gotten lost in time and publications; I do not want to stop sharing beautiful music each week.
So, as God commands us in His word, let’s do things decently and in order. With the beauty of technology, used for HIS glory, the opportunity to find great soul moving music is easier than ever. I will be sure to include purchasing links where I know they exist or point you in the right direction. I hope you enjoy this Sunday’s Song, “The Power of the Cross!”
***The Links provided are in no way of monetary value or for commission purposes. I just want to share beautiful music currently available. Many Christians and rural ministries have never heard of these names before and/or versions of the beautiful songs they already know and love. Music nurtures the soul with the truth and message it sings!***

Sunday’s Song: Power of the Cross
Beautiful and powerful songs have once rang through the echoing auditoriums across the world, yet each year new music blasts over precious message filled hymns. Talent is beautiful; but, let us not forget the amazing hymns, songs and testimonies with their powerful moving messages. Power of the Cross is another glorious hymn. Taken from scripture, verse 18 of first Corinthians states:
“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”
Written by Keith Getty and Stuart Townend, Power of the Cross was published in 10 hymnals and had a 2005 copyright. Beautiful does not even begin to describe this sweet song. So without further ado, you will be pleased to hear a very talented group, Gold City, sing this hymn. Power of the Cross is one of the hymns you can find on their new record, Hymn Revival.
Here are the lyrics to this amazing hymn.
Sunday’s Song: Power of the Cross
Oh, to see the dawn
Of the darkest day
Christ on the road to Calvary
Tried by sinful men
Torn and beaten, then
Nailed to a cross of wood
This, the power of the cross
Christ became sin for us
Took the blame, bore the wrath
We stand forgiven at the cross
Oh, to see the pain
Written on Your face
Bearing the awesome weight of sin
Every bitter thought
Every evil deed
Crowning Your bloodstained brow
This, the power of the cross
Christ became sin for us
Took the blame, bore the wrath
We stand forgiven at the cross
Now the daylight flees
Now the ground beneath
Quakes as its Maker bows His head
Curtain torn in two
Dead are raised to life
“Finished!” the victory cry
This, the power of the cross
Christ became sin for us
Took the blame, bore the wrath
We stand forgiven at the cross
Oh, to see my name
Written in the wounds
For through Your suffering I am free
Death is crushed to death
Life is mine to live
Won through Your selfless love
This, the power of the cross
Son of God, slain for us
What a love! What a cost!
We stand forgiven at the cross
Sunday’s Song: The Power of the Cross
Just enjoy this beautiful song. May your Sunday be blessed with a wonderful song and touch your heart in one of these special variations to the song. Acapella for the first video.
Next, a beautiful orchestra with singer, Naomi Jackson. A very talented voice, on point orchestra and powerful song, does it get any better? Beautiful.
Following that amazing performance is the Fountain View Academy has a beautiful recording of the Power of the Cross as well. Another well done and moving version of this song.
A choir “version” of this song is the congregational style hymn/praise song. This particular video below was recorded at a performance by Chapel Hill Church that was preformed by the California Baptist University Choir and Orchestra. A powerful pack of voices and truth filled message will not disappoint. (Be advised it was recorded in 2010 at a live concert- but is still fabulous!)
But if we are going through the history of the song, we have to get credit to the Booth Brothers that made it well known amongst the Southern Gospel fans. A slightly different way of singing the song for sure, but with many albums sold, the song became well known while appearing on Gaither Music TV.
Of course I cannot leave out the beautiful Galkin Evangelistic Team.
And another amazing recording from West Coast Baptist College Version- The Heritage Quartet!
And one more, a favorite in our home, West Coast Baptist College
Happy Sunday!
God is so good! May you know His presence in the house of the Lord today! Enjoy your fellowship and services!
P.S. And be sure to thank your pastor’s wife for March being National Pastor’s Wife month!
