God in the Daily: I’d Rather Be Fishing
As a young child, I learned to fish very young from my dad. From early on, I was hooked. I was taught catching fish is natural, fun, exciting, requires patience, means fishing at the right places and requires persistence. Ironically enough, I can use those same descriptive words in the midst of serving our Lord and Savior.

God in the Daily: I’d Rather Be Fishing
Fishing!
A favorite past time.
A fun adventure and season.
Can be enjoyed almost anywhere. (As long as there is a pond, lake, river or ocean.)
Let’s fish!
Spring break rolled up quick this year for my homeschooling teens that have endured a beautiful, traditional heavy winter. And as beautiful and challenging as it was, we were anticipating summer. Mostly for fishing. Yes, we love hard water fishing. But, having the proper equipment, clothing and time extra time; it is more consuming than summer fishing. None the less, we have made it hard water fishing a few times; but little B is 2 and anxiously awaiting “normal fishing” as she calls it. Boat fishing.

God in the Daily: I’d Rather Be Fishing
Wrapping up another week of spring school, chores completed in record time, and bodies scurrying to find ice fishing equipment. With tackle boxes in the seats, the ice shack and auger loaded, and the crew bundled; we set off for bait. As you know, bait is vital with ice fishing.
Our first stop was disappointment. “Are you sure you want to go fishing? Or do we want to get our snowshoes and hit the trail?”
“I’d rather be fishing!”
Brown dormant larvae ready to cocoon, we set out for another bait location. Perfect. A cute little mom and pop sports shop set us up and we were off to the lake. I love home town stores, they are the best! Having to go around a different way, road closed ahead. We are going to have to go the long way. “Guys, you sure we want to go, it’ll be an extra 45 minutes?”
“It’s okay mom, we’d rather be fishing!”
Reaching our destination, we pulled out the equipment and filled the sleds. Each teen volunteered to pull. I am blessed. How many times do you go have fun and someone else volunteers to do the work? *I am so blessed* Anyways, with only the responsibility of the littles, we made it out to “our spot” and “set up shop”.
“Yes! Let’s go fishing!”
An efficient and beautiful system we have. Littles help me pick out bait, while I set up the poles. My older two set up the heater and shack for the littles, while another is cleaning ice shavings out of the ice holes. Sweet and efficient. After the first couple jumbo holes filled with freezing cold water, hooks plumply covered with dangling bait entered. Before hook number three is in the water, pole number one has a fish! Whew, this is going to be a good fishing day!!! Each task is completed in record speed and one teen is officially fishing, pulling up fish number four. All scurrying to do the same!
“Yes! Let’s go fishing!”
A gorgeous day in the woods, on the lake with my crew. Can it really be any better than this? On this earth, it would be hard to beat. It is amazing, even if it is not “normal fishing”. That might make it a bit better, but then you have mosquitos too. Otherwise, Heaven. Can you even fathom what Heaven might look like? With the most breath taking views, amazing Aurora B0realis, misty morning rivers, it is no wonder we feel close to God while in nature, it is all HIS beautiful creation! He is an amazing creator! Clenching to the most beautiful wonders and sights, it is only a glimpse of the beauty Heaven will contain. Can you imagine?
As a beautiful day in the woods and on the lake refreshes my soul, I also love the extra time to reflect, talk to the Lord and just be thankful! Thankful of everything I get to enjoy. Reflection on all the Lord is doing, plans to do and will do in the future. Talk and plead with the Lord of past, present and future. My God is so good! Do you know Him like that? I am not asking you where you go to church or what affiliation you have. But seriously, do you know him. Is He real to you like that? Because He desires to be. It’s a simple, but life changing choice. Do your loved ones know Him like that? If you live it, it will rub off on someone. It is a beautiful blessing to know your family, friends and loved ones are saved and have a REAL relationship with Him!
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13
“Yes! Let’s go fishing!”

” Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6
Most importantly, the best part of a day of refreshment and extra time with the LORD; is to be encouraged to tell more of this amazing Savior I serve and know. HE is a God of love and hope. He desires to know you and your loved ones more. To spend more time with you. To use you to fish for more men, women and families. HIS desire is that all are to be saved!
“And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” Acts 16:31
On a week we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, what better gift and way to celebrate is there, than to share why HE did. Spread the beautiful gospel message of this good news with friends, family, loved ones- yes. But do not forget your neighbors, co-workers and even the enemy. You do not know who needs to hear the message of the gospel. It might be their last chance to hear it. Over and over again, I am reminded of the importance of our obedience whether we understand all the time or not. Trust. God will do the rest. After all, greater than the all the pain of the cross Jesus endured, and it was horrific. Is the pain of our sins to our God! He made a way, so we did not have to. He loves us. Let us remember to share those “loves” with others around us.
“Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.” Isaiah 45:22
Share the love of sports, fishing, traditions, music and so on; yes. But let us not make them idols before the Lord. Let us share the love of God above ALL else in obedience to HIS word and for the love of others around us.
“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15
“Yes! Let’s go fishing!”
