Christian Womanhood: The Home Bible Study Series: The Faithful Home

When we think of a home, we think of what it means to us. Some homes are physically luxurious, while others are basic. Homes come in many different shapes and sizes. Homes are found in many different locations and guarded from various elements of it’s surrounding terrain. However, if we were to peel the walls off of that home and listen in for a day, what would we find? Our Bible Study on the Home is just that; the making of a happy home. One of those particular foundational elements we are going to look into with this study today, is being A Faithful Home.

What is faithfulness? To establish a faithful home, we must first define what is indeed faithful.

FA’ITHFUL, adjective. AS FOUND HERE IN THE Webster’s 1828 Dictionary– Firm in adherence to the truth and to the duties of religion, of true fidelity; loyal to allegiance; as a faithful subject, constant in the performance of duties or service and attending to exact commands. Observant of compact, treaties, contracts, vows or other engagements; true to one’s word. A government should be faithful to its treaties; individuals, to their word. True; exact; in conformity to the letter and spirit; as a faithful execution of a will. True to the marriage covenant; as a faithful spouse. Conformable to truth; as a faithful narrative or representation. Constant; (not wishy washy or fickle) as in a faithful lover or friend. True; worthy of belief.

As we see in the dictionary, we can pull out some key factors in establishing a Faithful Home, as we strive to provide homes that honor God’s as Christian wives and mothers. 5 Key Elements of a Faithful Home

1. Commitment to our Roles: Determine Many of Your Decisions Before You Encounter Them-Being the first element, this sounds like a big one. Though it is, it actually simplifies a lot of things.

For example, if you and your spouse agree divorce is not an option, it will eliminate words thrown in the heat of an argument or large disagreement. Or, if you are determining you will always be faithful in your walk, commit to belonging to a church and never missing service. It’s a blessing to know where we will be every Wednesday and Sunday. I love that the kids never say, are we going to church today? They know where we’ll be during services. Even out of town, we find a church before we leave or we don’t travel there around Sundays or Wednesdays.

Recognizing and fulfilling our roles to our spouse, our children and in the church body is part of keeping a faithful home. Commitment is that first key element in building a faithful home.

2. Recognizing Hindrances and Separating from them-Being the second element, this goes hand in hand with the first element. This simplifies a lot of things as well.

In keeping a faithful home, there are going to be things that are not necessarily wrong; but could be hindrances in your faithfulness. As women seeking to create a faithful home, a foundational block for a Happy Home; we can help combat these hindrances.

For example, we have some great programs for kids in the area. And although we all enjoy sports and the kids making friends in clubs, almost all have a commitment for Sunday or Wednesday night practices or games. Due to this, our family does not partake in a lot of sports, clubs, or activities like this in our community. It’s a bummer, because there are some great people running them. Wonderful friends and families loaded with knowledge of various topics and fun waiting to happen; however, it would interfere with our faithfulness to church and God. Sometimes schedule arrangements can be made, and have been altered to allow us to join. (What a blessing it is when coaches recognize commitment to God is most important!)

3. Faithful in Our Devotion-The first two elements were more about our physically commitments and duties. However, we must remember why we made those commitments. Often our attitudes of duty is delightful or drudgery. It’s the heart showing. Our devotion to Christ is more important than the things we physically do for Christ. Although both are essential on our journey walking with Christ, we often can only see the commitments or the “Doing” for Christ, rather the condition of a devoted heart.

4. Love– A faithful home is intertwined with a home filled with love. As we build homes that are faithful, we are building homes filled with love. Sweet memories being made with our spouses and children. Kindness and love wrapping each thought, special day, and disagreement. Singing, joyfulness, and God’s grace smothering anything and everything coming against and within our homes. This is an element in creating a faithful home.

5. Last, but not least, Joy. Even though we cannot always be happy, we can always have joy. A faithful home is a joyful. Imagine have a long unattainable list of things to do each day and each day trudging through the list. You know you will not complete it and you know it will have things added to it each day… LOL, motherhood, life. You don’t have to imagine. BUT, Life IS in part how we look at it.

Instead we have the opportunity to rise and take each step for the Lord. Tackling each task of the day. Conquering our household chores. Having loads of fun in home school. Creating some delicious meals our family looks forward to. Maybe get a few errands in on the side. And over all nailing the day like a carpenter finishing up the last sheet of a long roofing job. All while building sweet memories and enjoying the pitter-patter of muddy toes across the freshly mopped kitchen floor. (They should be your footprints too…) Ladies, let’s build faithful homes. A home that is faithful is a piece of the foundation for a Happy Homes!

Happy Homemaking!

(Sunrises were chosen as the theme. A reminder of their faithfulness to rise and set each day; our faithfulness to God and developing a faithful, happy home can rise and set just like the sun. On purpose and for a purpose!)
