Our Life

Autumn Camping and Dutch Oven Love

One of the best things about camping is the fresh crisp morning air, loons calling across the lake, calm clear water, fish following the canoe along each shore line, lots of sunshine, all day swimming adventures, and OH, camp food! We cannot forget about camp food, especially with a group of hungry teens or guys that spent all day fishing.

My guy says that’s the best part of camping, cooking on the fire. There are two guarantee for requests for every camping trip besides the s’mores. Bread bowl chili and baked tators. (Not together necessarily.) Like most people that go camping, we set up the tents as soon as we arrive to get camp all situated. However, we add one extra step. As soon as the shelters are in place, we take out a sack of potatoes and poke fork holes in each washed potato. Then wrap them individually in thick tinfoil and nestle them around the very outside of the fire-ring for cooking once the heat gets rolling, they stay there throughout the camping duration.

When or if someone gets hungry, they pull out a tator and add whatever they please to the tators. (We bring all the fixings to top them with.) So whether it’s butter, garlic, chives, sour cream, cheese, taco meat or pulled pork; it’s sure to fill a hungry soul.

However, that doesn’t mean we don’t have more potatoes for breakfast…

Dutch oven potatoes with onions. After simmering on the fire for 20 minutes and the coffee is hot, then we add the ham cubes and fry some eggs.

There are so many things one can create and bake beautifully on the open fire, with the help of a <a href=”http://<a target=”_blank” href=”https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00008GKDW/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00008GKDW&linkCode=as2&tag=titusjoy31-20&linkId=778072031bfda3765a80122b7bb2f5d6″>Lodge Deep Camp Dutch Oven, 8 Quart</a>""dutch oven.

Omelet Love!

Even the rain cannot keep this kiddo from roasting a hot dog!

Dutch oven Apple Crisp
~My deal is if they catch 5+ edible fish I will make all the camp apple crisp.
(Secret is I’d make it for them anyways- hence the reason it’s done when they get in from evening fishing.)

Our camp friend “Sparky” that joined us on the beach for the week.

Oh the memories ye will make and the sweet laughter at the crackling fireside makes camping even more beautiful with family and friends.

Happy Camping!!!
